“I am not a dancer or a dance instructor, but my love of dance began as a child watching MTV videos. I began choreographing dances to Boys to Men, Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston in my living room and then teaching my friends at lunch and recess. I even brought my boombox to school.
I don't teach, but I love being in the dance studio because the women there are magical. They remind me of how I felt as a child staying up late dancing with my friends...now I am just at a studio and a tiny bit older.
My philosophy is to remember to incorporate the things that bring joy back into our lives and take you a little out of your comfort zone.
When dancers come to our studio for the first time and check in, I want them to feel like they are not being judged in any way. That they are walking into a safe space where we are allowed to be whatever we feel that day, whether it's quirky, lazy, strong, or sexy. It's a place to make connections with yourself and with other clients. It is really a community.
I am a single mother of two boys, ages 11 and 8. I loved dancing when I was a child, but had not danced for years. I started going through a lonely period in my marriage and decided to take a ballet class out of the blue. From there, I began taking hip hop and heels and barre. I couldn't get enough and it brought back a sense of myself that I really needed at the time.
I secretly believe in Bigfoot.”
