Before You Feel Ready
I've been thinking a lot about belief lately, how easily we can talk ourselves both into and out of believing in ourselves.
Most of us don't struggle because we lack ability or care. We struggle because we have very sharp inner voices. The ability to evaluate, assess risk, and anticipate outcomes has kept us safe for thousands of years. Judgment isn't a flaw; it's a survival tool.
But when that same judgment turns inward, it can quietly erode belief.
It tells us we should be further along, more confident, more certain. We must have it all planned perfectly before we begin. And when something feels incomplete, and we feel uncertain, we assume we must be doing something wrong.
But the truth is:
“I don't have to do this perfectly for it to work.”
What's actually challenging isn't the doing, but starting before confidence exists. Letting go of urgency. Learning to stay when motivation wobbles. And it's staying with the process.
January can carry a quiet pressure. February invites us into belief without judgment.
Belief that you can begin before you feel ready.
Belief that consistency doesn't have to be rigid.
Belief that you're allowed to stay with yourself, even imperfectly.
With care,
Elease
P.S. I shared a longer reflection on belief, judgment, and staying with yourself on Substack, if you'd like to spend a little more time with it.
