Recalculating
January will arrive with its usual noise, the pressure to reset, improve, and become some new version of ourselves. Everywhere we look, we’re invited to start over, set goals, fix habits, and aim higher. It can feel like we’re expected to rebuild our entire lives from scratch.
But lately, I’ve been thinking about this differently.
I keep coming back to the way a GPS responds when you drift off course. You miss a turn, you get distracted, you choose the scenic route, and what does it do? It doesn’t judge you. It doesn’t tell you you’ve failed. It doesn’t decide you’re unworthy of reaching your destination.
It simply pauses, recalculates, and finds another way forward.
Life works the same way. We all take detours. We all end up on unexpected roads. We all think we’re “behind” sometimes. But none of that means we’ve lost our way. It just means the route has changed.
A GPS never gives up on the destination.
It meets you where you are and guides you from there.
No drama. No disappointment. No shame.
Maybe that’s the real work of this season, to remember that progress doesn’t always look like a straight line. Sometimes the most important thing you can do is simply check in with where you are and choose the next right turn.
So as you move into this new year, skip the self-criticism. You might not need to reinvent yourself. You may need to recalculate.
Pause. Notice your location.
Then take the next step that feels true.
That’s all recalculating really is, an act of self-direction, not self-judgment.
At MBDY + be, we practice this every time we move. When balance shifts, when breath wavers, when you fall out of rhythm, you don’t quit. You pause. You adjust. You come back. No judgment. Just recalibration. Movement teaches us how to begin again, gently, honestly, from exactly where we are.
You’re still on your way. Always.
Thank you for believing in and supporting MBDY for 7 years.
With love and gratitude,
Elease
